Inventive Ways to Reuse Glass Bottles

Reuse Glass Bottles

Regardless of how your upcoming summer looks, we hope that you’ll find some time to kick back, open a beer or a bottle of wine, and relax. There’s so much to celebrate in our day-to-day lives. And when we learn to lean further into the good, we can act as a friend to not only ourselves but also to our environment. There are a number of ways to repurpose items in our lives, and glass bottles are no exception. If you’re looking for crafty, DIY projects to indulge in this season, consider holding onto your used beer or wine bottles – you might just make your new favorite home decor item or craft a self-watering tool for your plants, in the process. Take a look through our list below for some inspiration of inventive ways to reuse the glass bottles in your life:

Beer Bottle Watering Globe

While summer is a widely beloved season, it can prove to be pretty brutal on our plants – especially in the Arizona heat. Repurposed beer bottles can be used as watering globes for houseplants or container gardens. Simply dampen the soil that your plant is rooted in, fill a cleaned beer bottle with fresh water, and bury the bottleneck deep into the soil. Over the course of a few days, the water will slowly soak up into the plant. This self-watering tool means you can enjoy long weekends away from home, without the stress of wondering what sort of shape your plants will be in by the time you return.

Upcycled Oil Lamp

Go old-school for your next backyard party and give an old bottle new life as an upcycled oil lamp. For this project, simply purchase wicks and oil – as well as some decorative pebbles, if you’d like to beautify the piece. Then, all you need to do is fill the bottle, assemble the wick, and light. Wine bottles offer enough height to make this DIY lamp the perfect centerpiece for your next gathering.

DIY Liquid Soap Dispenser

Purchasing a soap dispenser can often feel like an unexciting, redundant chore. So, why try to navigate the hassle when it’s so easy to make your own? Simply purchase a pump and the soap of your choice, and assemble the body of your dispenser with a used beer bottle. The project is not only simple, but it also gives you the opportunity to add your own flair to your home decor items.

Flower Vase

This might seem like a more obvious DIY route, but that doesn’t make it any less cute or fun. Vases from craft stores are beautiful – but they’re also unnecessary when you have perfectly good glass bottles at your disposal. Simply clean out an old beer or wine bottle (both offer different height options, so choose whichever one works best for your desired flower). Then, simply fill the bottle with water, arrange the flowers accordingly, and your project is complete! Now, you have a distinctive vase and flower arrangement to accompany your gorgeous home.

Wine Bottle Bird Feeder

This project is a bit more complicated, but it’s by no means impossible. With an empty wine bottle and wood, wire rope, several small screws, and bird food – of course – anyone can craft this gorgeous, DIY piece. And if done correctly, the seeds should be released in well-proportioned bits. Your trees will look gorgeous with this small addition, and your local birds will be very happy.
