COVID-Friendly Ways to Celebrate Halloween This Year

Spooky season is finally here—but expect it to look a little bit different. Halloween can still be fun this year—even while having to take necessary precautions to protect ourselves against COVID-19. There might not be trick-or-treating or large parties, but there are still a lot of ways to get spooky. Here are some fun ideas that you could implement during this Halloween.

Spooky Movie Night

This year, swap the party for an intimate and fun movie night with your family and/or some of your closest friends. This will ensure you have fun while also avoiding the dangers of large gatherings.

And fortunately for us, there are dozens of Halloween movies to choose from. Anything from a fun kid-oriented animated feature, to a masked-killer cheesy 80s flick. So take your pick! You know we do not judge.

One thing though, make sure you provide enough candy and popcorn for your guests. You do not want them being suspicious of you being a vampire, right? And if you’re feeling extra slimy-green there are some eco-friendly alternatives you can find in both stores and online. Either way, this is sure to be a fun Halloween!

Thrifty Costumes

Crazy Costume Competition

Halloween is just not the same unless someone is dressed up in a costume! A fun and eco-friendly way to do this this year is to have a thrifty costume competition.

Just go to your nearest thrift shop and purchase a bundle of old and leftover costumes and accessories. Then on Halloween night have your family and friends construct a costume with the thrifted goods you purchased. The winner will be the person who pieces together the most creative costume. Extra points to you if you award prizes to the winners.

This idea allows you to recycle and repurpose goods that could otherwise be thrown in the trash. And it is all in the comfort of your home and with the people closest to you. Now that sounds like a fun Halloween!

Oh and make sure enough candy is provided to the contestants as costume-building fuel!

Ghostly Photo Shoot

A new popular trend on the web are “Ghost photoshoots,” and they are exactly what you would think. You take some old white sheets and dress up as ghosts with other people. Then you go to a fun and random location (usually outside) and do a photoshoot.

The end results are usually fun and creative. And what is best is that you can safely enjoy the beauty of the fall outdoors while not producing any party waste, for all you need are people and white sheets. You could even use this as an opportunity to take a short road trip to the perfect location in which to do the photoshoot.

This is a sure way to get in a spooky mood for Halloween. The pictures could even be used as decorations and/or cards for future Halloweens. So do not miss out on this trend and add it to your list of scary festivities.

Creepy Crafts

Another enjoyable way to spend Halloween this year is with arts and crafts. Bring out all the scissors, construction paper, glue, and markers you have and get crafty with it!

You can help your kids make their own masks, decorations, and even witches’ hats. And although this is a perfect idea for the younger ones, this does not mean adults cannot enjoy it, too! There is no age limit on fun. Especially if the adults can responsibly pair this with a spooky beverage of their own!

And fortunately for us there are a lot of eco-friendly supplies available online. So order your favorites now to have them in time for the holiday!

BOO-filled Bake-off

One of the best things about Halloween are the delicious treats! Candy, cookies, cake… It’s all good stuff! So why not celebrate this holiday with all the food that makes it what it is?

Hold a baking competition in which all the participants make delicious Halloween treats. You can either make teams or have it be a free-for-all. It will be a blast either way! Just make sure you have enough decorative ingredients to really get creative.

And the best part if there will not be any losers. For how can anybody truly lose when all these delicious morsels are available?

The pandemic has changed a lot of things this year. Do not let it ruin your Halloween. You do not have to choose between staying safe and having fun. Use any or all of these fun ideas to spend a Halloween you will not forget!
