National Recycling Day

Tuesday, November 15 is National Recycling Day! According to “National Geographic,” Americans send 64 tons of waste to landfills during their lifetime. That’s 246 million tons of waste each year.* Therefore, to reduce this waste, it’s important to put in a diligent effort to recycle more often.

Muscular Moving Men & Storage, a Phoenix moving company, has recycled and donated 1,000,000 lbs. of furniture and food back into the community. Justin Hodge, the president of Muscular Moving Men & Storage, has four tips to help Arizonans safely recycle.

  • Carefully purge documents – You can still recycle shredded documents! Shred and review the material before you recycle to ensure that you don’t personal information is not legible.
  • Recycle your electronics properly – Do not put your used electronics in your recycling bin—even if all the data has been cleared! Check locally for electronics recycling events to take these materials to.
  • Recycling goes beyond putting stuff in your “blue trash can” – If you have unwanted, gently used items, donate them to a local nonprofit, sell them at a yard sale, sell them on Facebook or give them to a used furniture shop. Also, consider purchasing your things second hand when you are shopping!
  • Don’t recycle just to recycle – Don’t put non-recyclable materials such as plastic bags and snack wrappers in your recycle bin. This makes additional work for the staff sorting through recycled materials. https://nationaltoday.com/national-recycling-day/
