Eco-Friendly Tech Accessories

You’ve probably heard that it takes a single plastic water bottle about 450 years to decompose in a landfill. But did you know that a plastic phone case could take up to 1000 years? It’s more important now than ever to reduce our plastic consumption wherever possible, and many major companies are responsible for creating a lot of unnecessary plastic waste. On the other hand, several companies have come out with eco-friendly tech accessories in recent years, and the concept of recyclable, plastic-free phone cases has really caught on. Check out this list of tech accessory companies making a difference.

Pela

This Canada-based company is on a mission to build a waste-free future through eliminating bioplastics. Pela has seen an explosion of growth and popularity across the world due to their most popular product: the world’s first compostable phone case. Pela offers dozens of iPhone and Android cases, Airpods cases, smart watch bands, card holder wallets, and other tech accessories, all made from recycled materials. Customers can even send in their old products to be composted by the company; when you receive an order in the mail, Pela includes an extra pre-addressed recyclable envelope in case you need it. No matter what you purchase from Pela, you can rest assured knowing it was made with the well-being of our planet in mind.

Nimble

Nimble utilizes plastic-free packaging to ship their products, all of which are made from reusable materials. Some of their unique tech accessories include clear phone cases made from recycled CDs and colorful Spotlight cases made from three different varieties of plastic originally destined to sit in a landfill. Their portable and wireless chargers and cords are made from sustainable or recycled materials as well. Like Pela, Nimble also offers a recycling program: their One for One Tech Recovery Project collects old electronic items for proper recycling. Included in every product customers receive from Nimble is a biodegradable bag, which they can ship back to the company with their ancient flip phones and GameBoys inside.

Incipio Organicore

Incipio’s Organicore line of tech accessories is 100% plant-based, compostable, and biodegradable. The company’s new Impact Struts technology implemented in their phone cases helps to protect phones from drops of up to eight feet, while the cases still remain slim and soft to the touch. Eden Reforestation Projects also plants one tree through for every Organicore product that Incipio sells. This initiative gives the company and its consumers the opportunity to give back to the environment we all share. Organicore products are also compatible with wireless charging and come with a lifetime warranty.

Case-Mate ECO 94

Case-Mate teamed up with The Nature Conservancy to help accomplish their Plant a Billion Trees initiative through ECO 94 sales. Made from plant-based bioplastics, the ECO 94 phone case is recyclable and biodegradable. It offers ten-foot drop protection and an anti-scratch coating on the case exterior. Its flecked cream-colored background emphasizes the printed red lettering that reads “THANK YOU for helping the planet!” in the style of a classic grocery store plastic bag. Luckily, Case-Mate is doing its part to ensure a plastic-free future.

CASETiFY CONSCiOUS

CASETiFY is known for their unique and trendy phone cases, and their CONSCiOUS collection is no different. This line of tech accessories includes products like their Custom Compostable Case made from ecotify™, which the company describes as their “proprietary blend of biopolymers, starch, and bamboo.” Unlike other similar compostable cases, this one is bamboo-based. Customers can choose from a variety of different color options, and can even add a custom engraving on the back of the case. The Custom Compostable AirPods Case has an engraving option as well, so your phone and your AirPods can match.
