Ben & Jerry’s goes non-dairy?! Well, not exactly, they still have your favorite milk-based ice cream. However, they partnered up with Vegan Action, a nonprofit organization that fights to decrease environmental impacts, animal suffering, and helps improve human health. Vegan Action has verified that Ben & Jerry’s new non-dairy ice cream does not include any animal products, such as: eggs, honey, or milk. Instead, they used almond milk to create their newest creations that are certified vegan and non-GMO.
Vegans and almond milk lovers rejoice! The new non-dairy flavors include: Chunky Monkey, a banana dessert with walnuts and fudge chunks; Chocolate Fudge Brownie, a chocolate frozen dessert with melt-in-your-mouth vegan brownies; Coffee Caramel Fudge, a coffee frozen dessert with caramel swirls and fudge chunks; and P.B. & Cookies, a vanilla frozen dessert with crunchy peanut butter swirls and chocolate sandwich cookies. The delightful brownies hail from Greyston Bakery in Yonkers, New York. Ben & Jerry’s has partnered with the bakery since 1988, and they recently started producing vegan brownies.
Even if you’re a milk lover, almond milk tastes delicious and contains similar nutrients, such as Riboflavin, which is part of the Vitamin B group. According to the National Institutes of Health, “Almond milk helps enhance red blood cells and releases energy from the carbohydrates you eat, Vitamin A, D, E, and B12, calcium, potassium, and protein.”
Almond milk is also low-calorie (30-60 calories per cup), cholesterol free, and it’s heart-healthy. Almond milk also has a high chance of defeating prostate cancer, in which it can overpower the development of prostate cancer cells by more than 30 percent, according to a 2011 issue of “Cancer and Nutrition” journal. Almond milk is not only a tasty choice, but it’s a healthy one as well. Thank you, Ben & Jerry’s, for giving us more almond milk ice cream choices.
