5 Ways to Avoid a Hangover

Benjamin Franklin was once famously quoted as saying, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”  We can certainly apply this sound principle to hangovers.  Sure, there are lots of cures out there for the dreaded “day after,” but wouldn’t it be a better idea to avoid it in the first place? Not indulging in libations at all would certainly do the trick, however for those times when there’s a great probability you’ll be over-served, here are some strategies to prevent a hangover:

  • Consume plenty of leafy greens and bright yellow and orange veggies (like bell peppers), and beets, too.  These foods contain B vitamins which support the liver and pancreas.
  • Eat fruits like kiwi and bananas because not only are they hydrating, but they also contain B vitamins.

  • Drink water in between alcoholic beverages to help flush out the alcohol more effectively. This tactic may even prevent you from drinking more alcohol.  Remember, when the body becomes dehydrated, it will draw water from any available source, including the brain (here comes the headache!).
  • Drink coconut water – it replaces your fluids and electrolytes, which are the nutrients you lose when drinking alcohol.
  • If you decide to take any nutritional supplements, take B vitamins and antioxidants.

Stay safe out there tonight and over the weekend! And remember, if you don’t have a DD, call Clean Air Cab! Support a local green business and get home safe.
