Part of giving well is actually giving to organizations and charities that are effective in their approach to supporting causes—and who put your donations to good use, in the process. On this Giving Tuesday, here are five sustainable organizations to support:
Seeding Sovereignty
This Indigenous and womxn-led conservation organization seeks to diversify the environmental movement through focusing on systematically oppressed communities. Seeding Sovereignty has pushed a number of effective campaigns, including the “Stop Pipelines to Plastics” campaign which works to combat fossil fuel extraction and address the effects of the practice on the environment and marginalized communities. For more information, visit www.seedingsovereignty.org.
Rainforest Trust
The Rainforest Trust—established in 1998—is an eco-friendly organization that works to protect the planet’s critical ecosystems through partnerships and policy reform efforts. Through their campaigns and projects, the trust has saved dying species like the bamboo lemur and the blue-throated macaw. The Rainforest Trust has also succeeded in protecting rainforest land in Ecuador, the Amazon, and Mexico. For more information, visit www.rainforesttrust.org.
Center for International Environmental Law
The Center of International Environmental Law (CIEL) works to provide legal counsel in the areas of climate and energy, environmental health, and people, land & resources. The organization uses a four-pronged approach as a guide for dismantling anti-environmental policy, which includes promoting environmental democracy and strengthening international human rights law, among other causes. Ocean Conservancy
The Ocean Conservancy—established in 1972—has been working to support efforts for healthier oceans through advocacy and education platforms. Beyond reducing excess waste in our waters, the Ocean Conservancy also champions campaigns working to protect the Arctic and restore the Gulf of Mexico. Green Tech Education
Green Tech Education’s greatest goals are to invest in the next generation, and to collaborate with community partners to promote more environmental career opportunities in transportation, environmental management, construction and more. Green Tech works with young adults in economically disadvantaged communities to expand future opportunities and ensure a prosperous, green society for the upcoming generations.
