Recycle Your Pool Inflatables This Summer

Funsicle®, a rapidly growing outdoor recreation brand within the Polygroup® family, is diving headfirst into sustainability this National Swimming Pool Day (July 11). As people continue to enjoy their pools this summer, they may come across old inflatables that have seen better days and are ready to be retired. In partnership with international recycling leader TerraCycle, Funsicle is helping consumers recycle their well-loved Funsicle pools and floats for free through the Funsicle® Inflatables Free Recycling Program.

“We founded Funsicle on the core values of innovation, quality, fun, and sustainability. Our partnership with TerraCycle reinforces our commitment to sustainability, enabling consumers nationwide to easily recycle their old inflatables and keep them out of landfills,” said Eric Steinmeyer, CEO of Polygroup North America.

Most inflatable pools and floats are made from PVC, which is challenging for local recyclers to process due to its high chlorine content and hazardous additives. The Funsicle® Inflatables Free Recycling Program addresses this issue by keeping old Funsicle inflatables out of landfills.

“There’s a common misconception that once inflatables are worn out or beyond repair, the only option is to toss them in the trash,” said TerraCycle CEO and founder Tom Szaky. “Through this innovative recycling program, Funsicle is helping consumers responsibly dispose of their old inflatable pools and floats, keeping summer cool and sustainable.”

Participation in the Funsicle® Inflatables Free Recycling Program is easy: simply sign up on the program page at https://www.terracycle.com/en-US/brigades/funsicle, download a prepaid shipping label, and mail in deflated Funsicle pools and floats to TerraCycle for recycling. Once collected, the pools and floats are cleaned, shredded, and separated by material type. The plastics are sorted by category and then ground to make recycled plastic blends that manufacturers use to make new products.
