In 2024, Arizona Financial Credit Union donated more than 920 refurbished laptops and PCs to local nonprofits and credit union employees, making a significant impact in the community. These donations not only support the missions of the chosen nonprofit organizations but also offer a meaningful benefit to employees while reducing electronic waste, showcasing the credit union’s dedication to sustainability and community investment.
While 354 refurbished devices were provided to employees, the majority went to local and international nonprofits, furthering the credit union’s tradition of giving back. In total, Arizona Financial donated 568 devices to the Million Dollar Teacher Project, New Horizon Community Care, Chicanos Por La Causa Youth Community Center, Future Stars Title 1 Tech program, Parker Rotary Club, and the International Rotary Club in Zimbabwe. This initiative has enriched these charities by providing vital technology resources that help support their goals.
“During our equipment refresh process, our IT department came up with the idea to give employees the opportunity to request a decommissioned laptop or PC for their personal use,” said SVP & Chief Information Officer Randall Shipman. “In addition to being a nice benefit that helps employees who may need a home computer save some money, it’s also an environmentally friendly way to reduce electronic waste.”
The credit union’s IT desktop team has worked on the equipment refresh project for several months during the normal course of business — from deployment of around 1,000 new laptops and PCs across the organization to collecting the “old” equipment to decommission and prepare for donation.
“For security purposes, the equipment gets cleaned before it can be donated,” Shipman said. “To do this, the desktop team wipes company data from all the devices, rebuilds and replaces any parts as needed, and installs a fresh copy of the operating system.”
Arizona Financial has a long history of supporting community partners through programs like its Local Causes community grants program benefiting hyperlocal nonprofits and sponsorship of the Local First Arizona “We Rise” and “Fuerza Local” small business incubator programs, among others.
