Today, Rep. Eli Crane announced that he is introducing the North Rim Restoration Act of 2025, which would expedite the rebuild of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon by streamlining the federal contracting process.
Due to the devastating Dragon Bravo Fire, much of the region’s infrastructure was destroyed, including the iconic Grand Canyon Lodge. As a result, the North Rim remains partially closed, causing hardship for park staff, gateway communities, and residents.
In addition to creating lifelong memories for generations of visitors, the Grand Canyon stands as a marquee destination that drives vital economic growth. As one of the seven natural wonders of the world, Rep. Crane recognizes the urgency of rebuilding and restoring Arizona’s crown jewel.
In an effort to ensure expediency in the process, Rep. Crane’s bill would grant the National Park Service (NPS) emergency contracting authority to bypass standard delays and accelerate the renewal.
The legislation covers all fire-related recovery efforts, including forest management, maintenance, rebuilding, and infrastructure improvements. It also ensures that the NPS submits a full-scoping report to Congress every 180 days to maximize transparency and accountability.
As of today, the North Rim Restoration Act of 2025 is cosponsored by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), along with key members of the House Committee on Natural Resources, including Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chairman Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and Subcommittee on Federal Lands Chairman Tom Tiffany (R-WI). Congressional Western Caucus Chairman Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) is also an original cosponsor.
