Arizona summers ask a lot of us — and a lot of our water. As temperatures climb past 110°F, pools become one of the few reliable places to cool down, decompress and stay active outdoors. But in a state where every gallon is negotiated among cities, farms and a shrinking Colorado River allocation, the water sitting in our backyards and community facilities carries more responsibility than it used to. The question isn’t whether we should have pools in the desert — it’s how we keep them clean without working against the conservation goals the rest of the region is fighting for.
That tension is exactly what we, at Aquadei, set out to address.
Based in Gilbert, our nanobubble technology is now treating the roughly three million gallons of water at Revel Surf in Mesa. Our technology fundamentally enhances water at the particle level, creating cleaner water and measurable operational savings.

Our system works by infusing oxygen and ozone into bubbles so small that they behave less like air pockets and more like a dissolved oxidizer — clean enough to significantly cut down on the chlorine load needed to keep water safe. Revel Surf reported benefits such as less eye irritation, less dried-out skin and a noticeably weaker “pool smell.”
Heavy chlorination doesn’t just affect swimmers — it affects what eventually leaves the facility. Backwash water, drained pool water and runoff from heavily treated aquatic systems all make their way, directly or indirectly, back toward municipal treatment infrastructure already under strain from population growth and drought-driven demand. Reducing the chemical load at the source is a less-discussed form of conservation, but it’s one we think about constantly: less chemicals in means less chemical byproducts that treatment facilities have to process out.
Seeing that same core technology applied at the Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. — a very different setting, on the other side of the country, facing its own water quality challenges — confirms something we’ve believed for a while. This technology is becoming the standard, not the exception. And not just for pools, but a water treatment more broadly, where the goal isn’t to mask a problem with more chemistry, but to remove the need for so much chemistry in the first place.
That distinction matters to us. Water isn’t an inert substance to be dosed and disinfected into submission — it’s a living system, chemically and biologically active, that responds to what you put into it. Our approach has always been to work with that, not against it: we add oxygen and ozone because they support the water’s own natural oxidative processes, not because we’re trying to overpower it with something foreign. The result is water that stays cleaner because it’s healthier, not because it’s been chemically subdued — and that benefits everyone downstream.

We don’t see recreational pools as the ceiling for this technology. We’re already exploring how the same oxygen and ozone nanobubble process can support wastewater treatment, agricultural water systems and the restoration of lakes and ponds. That range is core to how we think about our work — this isn’t a novelty aimed at making backyard pools smell better; it’s an early step toward treating water systems as ecosystems worth restoring, rather than chemical problems to be managed.
In a state that will keep having hot summers and tightening water budgets, a shift towards sustainably clean water matters to us. Pools aren’t going away, and they shouldn’t — they’re genuinely one of the few accessible forms of heat relief many Arizona families have. We are working to make sure the water inside them, and the water that eventually leaves them, can be part of the solution instead of part of the strain.
